Wood Inlay Corgi

Multi-Wood Inlay Corgi

Finished Wood Corgi

As a Mother's Day gift, I designed and used a CNC router to create a wooden corgi art piece for my mom. The wooden corgi consisted of three different types of wood. I used a dark Walnut for the base, which all the other wooden pieces were inserted into. I then used Yellowheart and Poplar for the actual wooden corgi. I chose to use these woods because their natural colors resemble the color of a corgi's fur, and I did not want to use any wood stains to get the desired colors.

Designing the Corgi

For the wooden corgi, I used Autodesk Inventor to design all the separate parts. I created the design by following different images of cartoon corgis that I found online.

After designing and scaling all the parts, I used Autodesk HSM to do all the CAM for machining the corgi. I used a combination of 2D contours and 2D pocket toolpaths to machine all the features of the corgi.
